Harvie Road

The City plans to build a roundabout at the intersection of 88 Avenue and Harvie Road to improve traffic flow and road safety.

Project Description

The City plans to replace the all-way stop at the intersection of 88 Avenue and Harvie Road with a roundabout.

The roundabout will help improve traffic movement in the area. This intersection has seen considerable growth in traffic volumes over the years from local residents and commuters.

With the unique geometry of this intersection, turning movements, and proximity to community facilities, a roundabout was considered a better option over traffic lights.

Summary of Improvements

Improvements will consist of the following:

  • A roundabout to reduce congestion and keep vehicles moving safely
  • Sidewalks leading up to the intersection to provide improved pedestrian access
  • Landscaping and public art in the roundabout island

What will this Project Achieve?

The project will provide the following benefits:

  • Improve traffic flow and reduce current traffic delays
  • Increase road safety. Roundabouts help reduce conflicts between vehicles and virtually eliminate the most severe crash types – right-angled and left-turn collisions. Slow speeds are required when entering traffic circles, which reduces the frequency and severity of crashes that may occur.
  • Shorten crossing distances and time for pedestrians while making it safer to walk

Project Timing

Project construction is anticipated to start in early 2025 subject to Council approval. Dates will be shared as they become available.
