Harvie Rd & 88 Ave Roundabout
The City plans to build a roundabout at Harvie Road and 88 Avenue to improve traffic flow and road safety.
Project description
The City plans to replace the all-way stop at the intersection of 88 Avenue and Harvie Road with a roundabout.
The roundabout will help improve traffic movement in the area. This intersection has seen considerable growth in traffic volumes over the years from local residents and commuters.
With the unique geometry of this intersection, turning movements, and proximity to community facilities, a roundabout was considered a better option over traffic lights.
Roundabouts also help reduce conflicts between vehicles and virtually eliminate the most severe crash types – right-angled and left-turn collisions. Slow speeds are required when entering traffic circles, which reduces the frequency and severity of crashes that may occur.
Summary of improvements
- A roundabout to reduce congestion and traffic delays
- Sidewalks leading up to the intersection to provide safer and improved pedestrian access
- Landscaping and public art in the roundabout island to enhance the area
Project timing
Construction of the roundabout will start in February 2025 and anticipated to be completed by summer 2025.
