The City plans to make improvements to 132 Street from 72 Avenue to 80 Avenue.

Project description

132 Street is an important north-south route linking the communities of Newton and North Surrey. 

132 Street from 72 Avenue to 80 Avenue is an extremely busy corridor serving Newton businesses, industry and local residents. The City plans to make improvements along this segment to reduce traffic delays, and improve both traffic flow and road safety.

Project timeline

Improvements will be made in phases:

Phase 1: 72 Avenue to 76 Avenue
Construction anticipated to begin January 2025 subject to Council approval and be completed late 2025

Phase 2: 76 Avenue to 80 Avenue
Construction anticipated for 2026 subject to Council approval

Phase 1 Key Improvements

  • road widening from two to four travel lanes to improve traffic movement
  • adding multi-use paths on east side of the road to make it safer to cycle and walk 
  • installing a pedestrian crossing at Comber Way to make it safer to cross the street
  • adding new left turn lanes to improve traffic flow
  • upgrading bus stops to improve access to transit 
     

The project will also involve replacing aging sanitary sewers and watermains along 132 Street.
