About Fingerprints of belonging

This work is the continued meditation of an immigrant on the intertwined structures of identity and transformation in our communities. Derived from data drawn from the diversity of languages spoken, ethnicities present and their representative population in Surrey this work visualizes the data of Surrey’s culturally rich community as “fingerprints of belonging". Installed over five micro-sites of utility boxes surrounding a sculpture about the transformation and liminal experience of an immigrant titled becoming, the works dance together to celebrate and make visible the beauty of Surrey’s diversity, and the nature of community.
