Dance is a universal language that goes beyond borders and time. It's deeply connected to cultural identity, helps honor traditions and expresses the unique heritage of a community. The movements and music passed down through generations keep traditions alive and create a sense of belonging and home.
"Unity in Motion" is a collage of dancing figures, each showing a different dance style from the cultural communities in Surrey. The illustration is made of different dance movements with each figure blending into the next. This creates a tapestry of motion where the unique figures come together to reflect Surrey's diverse and multicultural environment.
About the Artist
Julie is a licensed architect and co-owner of Oori Architecture, a studio in Vancouver focused on designing spaces that help protect the environment. She loves creating meaningful spaces and believes that architecture combines creativity and practicality. This inspires her to be both imaginative and realistic in every project. Julie is also passionate about how art influences the spaces within buildings, and she enjoys sketching, illustrating, and painting in her free time.
