64 Avenue Improvements
The City continues to invest in 64 Avenue to improve traffic flow, increase safety, and support growth.
Project description
64 Avenue is an important east-west connector linking Surrey residents to City of Delta and the Township of Langley. It's a busy corridor expected to get even busier especially in the east with the Surrey Langley SkyTrain to Clayton and a future Surrey hospital in Cloverdale.
64 Avenue: 152 Street to 164 Street
We are widening the final stretch of 64 Avenue between 152 Street and 164 Street as part of the City’s long-standing plan to make 64 Avenue a continuous four-lane east-west corridor from 120 Street to 196 Street. The project aims to reduce congestion, improve road safety and support city growth.
Construction is expected to start spring 2025 and be completed in spring 2026.
Key improvements
- widening the road from two to four lanes
- adding a multi-use pathway for cycling and walking on the south side
- road paving along 152 Street between 64 Avenue to 68 Avenue
- repairs to the railway crossing at 64 Avenue and 152 Street intersection
A short closure of 152 Street near the 64 Avenue intersection to speed up railway crossing resurfacing work
64 Avenue: 177B Street to 184 Street
Construction to complete in spring/summer 2025.
Key improvements
- Repaving and widening the road from two to four travel lanes to reduce congestion and prepare for future growth
- Improving access, safety and circulation with new traffic signals at 180 Street, 181A Street, and Claytonwood Gate
- Adding a new multiuse path on the south side of the street for safer cycling and walking.
In order to widen the road for additional lanes and multiuse paths, it will be necessary to remove on-street parking.
We will coordinate installation of BC Hydro duct during road works to minimize construction impacts to residents. BC Hydro's duct bank project will support growth in the Cloverdale community and service the new Surrey hospital and BC Cancer Centre.
