Project overview
The Surrey Langley SkyTrain Projectis being delivered by the Province of BC. It will connect Surrey and Langley, and the rest of the region.
As the backbone of our rapid transit network, SkyTrain offers riders fast, frequent, high-capacity service. Our focus is to get Surrey residents where they need to go quickly, safely, and affordably.
The Surrey Langley SkyTrain Project is a 16-kilometre extension of the Expo Line. It will travel on an elevated guideway along Fraser Highway from King George SkyTrain Station to Langley Centre, connecting City Centre, Fleetwood and Cloverdale/Clayton with seamless rapid transit.
The proposed project includes:
- 8 new stations
- 3 new bus exchanges
Skytrain will service growing cities
Surrey and Langley are among the fastest-growing cities in Metro Vancouver.
Over the next 30 years, the City of Surrey, City of Langley, and Township of Langley are expected to
- welcome more than 400,000 new residents and
- create 185,000 additional jobs.
This growth will place pressure on our transportation system, economy and environment as a result of planned increased land use development along the Fraser Highway corridor. SkyTrain will help reduce additional automobile use in South of Fraser and encourage first and last mile trips by active transportation.
How we are planning for growth
To support SkyTrain, we are creating new land use plans along the Fraser Highway corridor. We are reviewing and updating existing land use plans. Through these, we are supporting the development of walkable and vibrant Transit Oriented Communities.
The following land use plans are underway to support the SkyTrain extension:
- Fleetwood Plan
- City Centre Plan
- Clayton Corridor Plan
- South Westminster Plan
- East Cloverdale/196 Street (future plan)
