The quality of the work on display is a reflection of the Society’s commitment to helping artists develop their creative and technical skills through lessons and get-togethers, with discussions on everything from colour theory to outdoor sketching techniques.
“Artswest members are a multi-talented group of artists working in a variety of mediums,” says Donna Schipfel, the exhibition’s organizer. “Our vision for the show is to demonstrate the diversity of the artist’s response to the world around us. We want the viewers to experience the same type of emotional tie the artist feels towards their work. Also to understand that ideas and inspirations can be expressed in many ways.”
Visitors will encounter paintings, drawings, and ceramic sculptures that capture a range of different themes—from the beauty and grandeur of the natural world to stories of personal loss, as well as the search for inner peace through artmaking. Artworks feature scenes of local wildlife, tranquil domestic interiors, and vibrant, abstract fields of colour and pattern.
Surrey Artswest Society is a non-profit group dedicated to the promotion of local artmaking and education, and to supporting art-related activities throughout the Fraser Valley. The Society brings together both novice and experienced artists, offers live demonstrations from practicing artists, provides exhibition opportunities, and facilitates creative growth.
