Viking Village Coming to Museum of Surrey
Visitors will have the unique opportunity to explore an authentic Viking era experience circa 1000 AD that includes a seasonal trading village made up of Norse men and women from all parts of the Viking World.
Surrey, BC – The Norse Culture Recreation Society Réik Felag is coming to Museum of Surrey on October 22 for a free family friendly event celebrating Scandinavian culture.
Visitors will have the unique opportunity to explore an authentic Viking era experience circa 1000 AD that includes a seasonal trading village made up of Norse men and women from all parts of the Viking World.
There will also be crafts, a scavenger hunt, roving performances by Erik Anderson of Surrey’s heritage troupe The Re-enactors and much more.
“It is so important to tell the stories of cultures and communities in Surrey. At the Museum, the Nordic spirit is alive and well,” said Museum of Surrey Manager Lynn Saffery. “Bring the whole family to join in this lively celebration that offers a unique and innovative look at the history of these people.
Réik Felag is a group of enthusiastic history buffs who bring the Viking Age into the present with engaging and interactive living history portrayals and historical re-enactment. Play Old Norse games, learn about Viking trade practices and observe weaving, blacksmithing and how the Viking’s lived during that time.
The non-profit inclusive community is composed of men, women and children of various ages and backgrounds.
Museum of Surrey is a dynamic and accessible community hub and cultural space that reflects the City of Surrey’s innovation and creativity. It is a people museum, with a mission to connect people and stories through engaging events, interactive award-winning exhibits, programs, textiles and local, national and international exhibitions, as well as public space for rentals. The site, located at 17710 56A Avenue in Surrey, is on the Heritage Campus, home to Veterans Square, Anderson Cabin, 1881 Town Hall and Anniedale School.
