Surrey, BC – Illegal dumping costs the City of Surrey approximately $750,000 annually, which could be better spent on community amenities and services. In 2023, there were 7,570 illegal dumping sites recorded. To combat the issue, the City is continuing with two-week Clean-Up Blitzes across the city and is enhancing patrols and enforcement. Residents are also encouraged to take advantage of the Free Waste Drop-off Program underway and the Large Item Pickup Program.

"Illegal dumping is not only costly, but also harmful to our environment and our community's well-being,” said Mayor Brenda Locke. “By taking advantage of our free disposal services and reporting illegal dumping, we can work together to reduce the financial burden on our city and create a safe and welcoming environment for everyone. Let's all do our part and rethink waste – for a cleaner, greener Surrey."
