Surrey marks milestone with Let’s Hear It BC JUNOS Plaza Party
The free one-day music festival drew 10,000 attendees to Surrey Civic Plaza on Mar. 15
Surrey, B.C. – Last Saturday, 10,000 music lovers from across the lower mainland came together at Surrey Civic Plaza to attend the Let’s Hear It BC JUNOS Plaza Party. The free, one-day music festival showcased live music from over 30 artists across six stages, including JUNO Award nominees, Tyler Joe Miller, Chani Nattan and Inderpal Moga, as well as Punjabi legend, Sarbjit Cheema. The festival showcased the best of B.C’s music scene for the community to experience the spirit of the JUNOS ahead of the 2025 JUNO Awards Broadcast in Vancouver at Rogers Arena on Saturday, Mar. 30. In addition to live performances, the festival featured an open jam, 5X Art Party, local music organizations, food trucks and a licensed area.
“Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Let’s Hear It BC JUNOS Plaza Party at Surrey Civic Plaza,” said Mayor Brenda Locke. “We were filled with pride as we celebrated the remarkable talent of our artists, our shared love for our country and the spirit of Surrey. This festival marked an important milestone for Surrey, reinforcing our commitment to fostering homegrown talent and showcasing our city as a shining example of unity and creativity. We are committed to supporting local artists, hosting cultural events, and making Surrey a premier destination for live music.”
The Let’s Hear It BC JUNOS Plaza Party marked the first-ever music festival of its kind produced by the City of Surrey, a milestone moment in Surrey’s entertainment evolution. Surrey is actively shaping City Centre into a vibrant entertainment district, attracting visitors and strengthening the music, arts, and culture scene. Guided by the City’s Surrey Music Strategy adopted in 2023, the festival supported its objectives to grow the local music industry, create more opportunities for Surrey-based artists, and establish Surrey as a premier destination for free music events. By investing in events like the Let’s Hear It BC JUNOS Plaza Party, the City of Surrey is fostering a thriving music scene that benefits artists, businesses, and the broader community.
The Let’s Hear It BC JUNOS Plaza Party was a key stop on the Let’s Hear It BC JUNO Tour, a province-wide celebration shining the spotlight on local artists and bringing the energy and excitement of the JUNOS to everyone’s hometowns. Upcoming events include the Let’s Hear It Live JUNO Block Party, a 3-day free, all-ages festival happening at the Vancouver Art Gallery from Mar. 27-29.
“The Let’s Hear It BC JUNOS Plaza Party was more than just a celebration of music, it was a reflection of Surrey’s role as a hub for creativity, culture, and entertainment,” said Neesha Hothi, Director of Marketing for the Vancouver JUNO Host Committee. “Having worked within this community for over 20 years, it’s incredible to see Surrey recognized as a true music city. Bringing the energy of the JUNOS here in such a major way is truly special. Surrey has long been a driving force in the South Asian music scene, and today, its influence continues to grow and shape the future of the industry. A huge thank you to the City of Surrey for making this event possible and for continuing to elevate Surrey’s presence on the national stage.”
Attendees are invited to provide their feedback on the event and help shape future events via an online survey for a chance to win a $200 gift card to Guildford Town Centre at surrey.ca/junosplazaparty.
