Surrey, BC – The successful Our City beautification campaign will return this year, with Surrey City Council officially endorsing the city-wide initiative for 2024. Our City aims to motivate and enable Surrey residents to actively contribute to the improvement of their neighborhoods. With Surrey projected to reach a population of one million people in less than 20 years, the campaign aims to mobilize this growth and residents' energy to create the community life they desire.
"The City of Surrey is excited for the launch of the 2024 Our City campaign, which aims to inspire and empower our citizens to help make Surrey a great place to live, work and play," said Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke. "The Our City campaign helps to build civic pride and fosters a sense of community ownership. By providing necessary tools and resources, residents and business owners will play an essential role in creating a vibrant and enriching community for all.”
Throughout the 2024 campaign, residents will be provided with tools and resources to organize summer projects, including grants, training workshops, and volunteer opportunities. The campaign will also feature in-person outreach events, information sessions on Neighbourhood Enhancement Grants, learning opportunities, and a volunteer program for clean-up and beautification projects.
Launched in 2023, the Our City campaign focuses on engaging the community in placemaking projects, community clean-ups, volunteerism, and beautification projects to improve livability, cleanliness, and civic pride in Surrey. Last year, 49 grants were awarded through the campaign, and over 600 participants contributed more than 300 volunteer hours. Their work resulted in over 80 neighbourhood-led improvement projects, cleanups and events in 2023.
