Surrey, B.C. – On Friday, March 14, hundreds of people gathered at City Hall to celebrate young changemakers at the annual Surrey Steps Up Youth Showcase. During the event, Surrey youth shared how they are making a positive impact in their schools and communities through interactive displays and presentations. Attendees enjoyed an exciting celebration which included a dance floor, activities, games, food and live performances.

“Surrey Steps Up is a powerful reminder of the incredible potential of our youth to drive change in our community,” said Mayor Brenda Locke. “Youth are the architects of tomorrow, building bridges of hope and change in our communities today. When they step up, they ignite a spark that inspires not only themselves and their peers, but also generations to come. On behalf of City Council, I would like to thank these young leaders as they pave the way for a brighter future.”

Hosted by the City of Surrey, BC RCMP, Surrey Police Service, the Surrey School District, and youth planning team, Surrey Steps Up provides the opportunity for Surrey’s young people to take centre stage.

“It was so wonderful to see youth come together at City Hall for another successful event,” said Arielle Patterson, Youth Services Functional Manager. “Surrey Steps Up is important because it showcases youth-led initiatives, creative arts, and community service projects, reinforcing the power of youth-driven impacts.”
