Surrey, BC – Today, Surrey City Council, alongside members of the Cloverdale Rodeo and Exhibition Association (CREA) and family members, gathered to celebrate the commemorative naming of 177B ‘Will Senger Way’ in Cloverdale.
"'Will Senger Way' stands as a tribute to Will Senger’s profound impact and enduring connection with our community and the Cloverdale Rodeo,” said Mayor Brenda Locke. “Heritage is more than just preserving buildings; it's about honouring the stories and individuals who shape our city. The Cloverdale Rodeo holds a significant place in Surrey's history and remains a beloved tradition, and this weekend marks another chapter in its long history, thanks in part to the dedication of volunteers like Mr. Senger."
Will Senger had been a prominent member of the CREA for over five decades, starting as a volunteer in the 1950s. Through his tenure, Mr. Senger has held many positions within the CREA, including Director of the Association and Chairman of the Cloverdale Rodeo. He was awarded the Governor General's Medal in 1992 for dedication and profound impact on the rodeo community in Canada, and in 2004, he became the first British Columbian to be inducted into the Canadian Professional Rodeo Hall of Fame. Mr. Senger passed away in October 2017.
To honour his memory, the City has placed commemorative street signs for “Will Senger Way” at key intersections: the corner of 62 Avenue and 177B Street, on 62A Avenue and 177B Street, and on 64 Avenue and 177B Street.
