Surrey, BC – City of Surrey launched a survey today to collect feedback from residents and community stakeholders on a state-of-the-art expansion to City Centre’s Chuck Bailey Recreation Centre.

The project will include an expanded range of recreation, sports, arts, and culture programming; new indoor and outdoor amenities; and enhanced learning and social opportunities.

To meet the growing needs of Whalley and City Centre, the City is seeking input from the community on which activities, features and amenities are important to them. The feedback will help shape space planning, building design and facility programming.

In addition to the community survey, the City will be conducting stakeholder workshops and focus groups. Residents who take the survey can enter for a chance to win a $100 gift card. The survey is open until October 20.

The contract for the design and construction administration was awarded to Shape Architecture Inc. in July. In September, the City awarded the contract for project management to Turnbull Construction Project Managers Ltd. Construction is planned to begin in late 2022/early 2023 and is estimated to be completed in early 2025.

In the next 25 years, City Centre’s population is expected to grow to around 85,000 residents. By 2045, the emerging downtown Surrey will be the business and cultural centre of British Columbia’s most populous municipality.

The Chuck Bailey Recreation Centre expansion is one of 20-plus capital projects approved by Surrey City Council as part of the Surrey Invests Program included in the Five-Year (2021–2025) Financial Plan – Capital Program.
