Surrey, BC – City of Surrey’s annual Seniors Week celebration is set to open with a Health and Wellness Forum on June 1 followed by a week filled with activities across Surrey. New this year is a ‘Try It’ 55+ Sports and Games Passport Contest. Participants will receive a passport at their first activity, collect stamps at each subsequent event and earn entries for a chance to win an annual recreation pass.

"The 'Try It' Sports sessions are part of the City’s ongoing efforts to promote active and healthy lifestyles in our seniors community. It is also an opportunity for our 55+ residents to try something new,” said Mayor Brenda Locke. "I invite our seniors community to come be a part of the week long celebrations where you can get active, have fun and meet new friends. I hope to see you there.”

The opening event on June 1 will offer valuable information on various programs such as the new dental care plan, medical equipment and caregiver tax credits, virtual health, primary care network, fall prevention, mental health program and resources, City of Surrey’s Emergency notifications and much more. Participants can explore information booths, enjoy door prizes, complimentary welcome refreshments, and lunch. Fun activities throughout the week include ‘Try It’ Sports, WALKit sampler activities and a ‘pop up’ Storywalk®.

Registration for Seniors’ Week activities is convenient with three easy ways to register: by phone at 604-501-5100, online, or in person at any City of Surrey recreation facility. Visit surrey.ca/seniorsweek, for more information.
