“Melanie Teichroeb is brusque, bawdy, and unapologetic in her Viking warrior solo show Shield Maiden.”—Stir Magazine
Written and performed by Melanie Teichroeb
Imagine a tenth century Viking TED Talk on what it means to be a warrior woman. In the 19th century, Swedish archeologists discovered the remains of a Viking warrior outside Stockholm. The researchers believed the warrior to be a wealthy Viking leader—and a man.
However, nearly 150 years later, DNA tests confirmed the remains belonged to a woman. And now, Melanie Teichroeb’s show gives you the opportunity to imagine what that Viking warrior would have to say. In this fierce and funny one woman show, Garrison Commander Ingrid Larsdottir endeavours to engage new recruits from the audience. On her quest she inadvertently reveals her own tragic and violent personal history. Watching her struggle with her trauma is unsettling. Witnessing her tap into her inner strength is inspiring. This empowering show will leave you entertained, informed, and inspired to reclaim your own inner warrior!
Bonus Warrior Content: There will be a post-show talkback after Shield Maiden, where a local warrior woman will join Melanie in a lively discussion. There will also be an opportunity for audience members to ask questions about the show’s subject matter.
This show is being offered with American Sign Language Interpretation (ASL).
