We acknowledge the concerns raised by members of the community regarding the recent exhibition, “Darshana: A Glimpse into the Hindu Civilization,” which concluded on December 17, 2024, 4 days prior to its scheduled closing date at the Museum of Surrey’s Community Treasures Gallery.

It was never the intention of the Museum or the City of Surrey to cause distress to any group or to diminish the identity of any community. We deeply value and respect Surrey’s diverse cultural and religious identities, and we remain committed to ensuring that all residents feel seen, respected, and heard.

We recognize the importance of thoughtful consideration when presenting cultural exhibitions. To this end, we are reviewing our processes for approving and curating exhibitions to ensure they reflect our dedication to inclusivity and sensitivity. This review will include engaging with diverse community voices, enhancing our consultation practices, and strengthening our review protocols.

The City of Surrey is dedicated to being a place where diversity is celebrated and where all communities feel connected and respected. We are committed to learning from this experience and fostering meaningful dialogue to continue building trust and unity across our city.

Thank you for sharing your feedback and for helping us grow together as a community.
