Winter Ice Palace celebrates 25 years of holiday fun

Surrey, BC - The City of Surrey is excited to announce the return of Winter Ice Palace at Cloverdale Arena this month, celebrating its 25th anniversary. From Dec. 14, 2024, to Jan. 5, 2025, the arena will be transformed with twinkling lights, colourful decorations, cheerful music and more to mark the special occasion. This popular, traditional event is an unforgettable skating experience and is the perfect way to spend time with your loved ones during the holiday season.  

"This holiday season the Winter Ice Palace is celebrating a milestone of 25 years of family fun in Surrey,” said Mayor Brenda Locke. “A cherished holiday tradition, the Winter Ice Palace is a magical and affordable experience for all ages. Opening this weekend and running until January 4, I invite everyone to lace up the skates and join us at Surrey’s own enchanting winter playground,”

This year’s event will offer a variety of opportunities to connect, socialize and embrace the spirit of the season. To commemorate the anniversary, a special kickoff event will be held on December 14, featuring food trucks, giveaways and festive music. Attendees can enjoy two skating sessions from 1 to 2:30 p.m. and 3 to 4:30 p.m.

On Dec. 21, Santa Claus will be at the arena for three skate sessions from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m., 3:30 to 5 p.m. and 5:30 to 7 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to wear an ugly holiday sweater while they skate and take photos.

Attendees must register for their 90-minute skating session, up to 72 hours in advance of its start time, to secure their spot. Registration is required for every member of a party at a cost of $5.00 per person. Annual Recreation Pass or Family Fun Pass members receive free admission but must still register. Capacity for each session is limited. While attendees are encouraged to bring their own equipment, skate and helmet rentals will be available for a small fee.
