Surrey Homelessness & Housing Society Launches 2023 Grant Program
Projects eligible for funding will focus on contributing to capital projects that create, renovate or maintain housing stock, programs that increase the access to housing, reduce and prevent homelessness, and initiatives that build capacity in the homelessness and housing sector in Surrey.
Surrey, BC – Surrey Homelessness & Housing Society (SHHS) has launched a call for proposals through the 2023 Leading the Way Home Grants Program to support initiatives that will reduce and prevent homelessness in Surrey. Projects eligible for funding will focus on contributing to capital projects that create, renovate or maintain housing stock, programs that increase the access to housing, reduce and prevent homelessness, and initiatives that build capacity in the homelessness and housing sector in Surrey.
“We are pleased to launch the 2023 Leading the Way Home Grant Program,” said Mayor Brenda Locke. “The grants help support innovative and life-changing projects that work to address the challenges of homelessness in our community. If you are an organization in Surrey working to make this possible with an eligible project in mind, we encourage you to apply.”
“Surrey Homelessness & Housing Society is committed to ending homelessness in Surrey and our vision is that everyone in Surrey has a home,” said Councillor Pardeep Kooner, who has been appointed President of the Surrey Homelessness and Housing Society Board. “I look forward to seeing the proposals that will help make a difference for those who are homeless or at-risk of homelessness in Surrey.”
Since its inception in 2007, SHHS has invested over $10 million in over 150 projects, supporting community partners to create homes, maintain existing housing stock and deliver programs to effectively respond to the needs of people who are unhoused or at risk of becoming unhoused in Surrey including children and youth. In 2022, SHHS’ call for proposals led to $250,000 granted to 9 projects that will maintain housing stock, build organizational capacity, and provide innovative services to our priority populations. This year, more than $250,000 in grant funding is available.
The call for 2023 proposals will be open until Oct. 9, 2023. For more information regarding the application process, key funding priorities and eligibility criteria, visit surreyhomeless.ca.
