Surrey, BC – Surrey’s 2024 Our City campaign was a record-breaking success, with residents stepping up to complete 107 neighbourhood-led improvement projects, cleanups, and community events. These projects included litter pickups, fence art, street banners, invasive species removal, tree plantings, community gardens, block parties, placemaking workshops, and much more.

"This year’s Our City campaign once again showed how committed Surrey residents are to improving their neighbourhoods," said Mayor Brenda Locke. "The record number 107 neighbourhood-led projects reflects the pride and dedication our residents have for their community. On behalf of Council, thank you to everyone who pitched in to make Surrey a more vibrant and connected place to live."

The campaign saw impressive community involvement:

  • 110 neighbourhood-led projects completed
    • 69 cleanup kits distributed
    • 41 small projects and neighbourhood celebrations
  • 550 participants engaged across multiple events, including:
    • 8 placemaking meetups
    • 4 workshops and learning opportunities
    • 7 grant information sessions
    • 4 neighbourhood cleanups
  • 100 volunteers signed up, contributing 412 hours of service

A total of 41 grants were awarded through the City’s neighbourhood enhancement grants program, each providing up to $3,000 to support neighbourhood projects, along with tools and resources.

The 2024 campaign concluded with the National Tree Day Celebration at Hawthorne Rotary Park on September 28, where volunteers and participants gathered to plant trees, clean up litter, and enjoyed a variety of activities. The event highlighted the collective efforts of the community and showcased the positive impact of this year's campaign.
