Surrey, B.C. – The 2024 Surrey Mayor’s Evening of Giving, held on October 4, set a new record for the highest funds raised for the Surrey Fire Fighters’ Charitable Society at the annual gala. Presented by Peter Wall Financial Corporation, the event was hosted by Mayor Brenda Locke and exceeded its fundraising goal of 20% more than last year’s total. This year's event raised more than $650,000. The final amount will be confirmed at the Surrey Tree Lighting Festival & Holiday Market.

“As we celebrate this remarkable achievement, I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who participated in the 2024 Mayor’s Evening of Giving,” said Mayor Brenda Locke. “Our community's generosity reaffirms the profound compassion we share for our children and families in need. The funds raised tonight will empower the Surrey Fire Fighters’ Charitable Society to continue their vital work, ensuring that no child goes hungry and that all have the resources to thrive in their education. Together, we are building a stronger, more supportive Surrey.”

Funds raised from the Mayor’s Evening of Giving will contribute to a variety of Surrey Fire Fighters’ Charitable Society’s community programs, particularly the Nutritional Snack Program (NSP). The NSP supports children to thrive in their educational journey by ensuring they have access to wholesome food. In 2023, the Surrey Firefighters delivered the NSP to more than 7,500 vulnerable Surrey students across 130 schools.

“We are deeply grateful for the extraordinary support from this year’s event. These funds will greatly benefit our Nutritional Snack Program, which has seen a significant increase in demand due to rising student numbers and food costs,” said Saverio Lattanzio, President of Surrey Fire Fighters’ Charitable Society. “We appreciate Mayor Locke and Council for their commitment to supporting the Surrey Fire Fighters’ Charitable Society and helping us improve the lives of people in our community.”

Founded in 1994, the Surrey Fire Fighters’ Charitable Society works to fulfill unmet needs of the community with a focus on Surrey’s children, youth and families. For more information, visit surreyfirefighters.com/charitablesociety.
