Before diving in and exploring Surrey‘s indoor pools, it’s important to understand your role in maintaining a clean and welcoming environment for everyone.

Whether you’re a seasoned swimmer going to swim laps or just looking to have fun with your friends and family during a public swim, take a moment to review our aquatic health and safety practices. Your efforts are key in ensuring our pools remain a safe and enjoyable space for all.

Why Showering Is Important

It’s essential to shower to maintain pool cleanliness, as it removes dirt, sweat and bacteria from your body. Although chlorine kills germs and bacteria, when it reacts with body waste from swimmers who haven’t showered it forms chloramines. Chloramines can irritate the skin and eyes, cause dryness and produce a strong odour. Showering with soap and water prevents chloramine formation, keeping the water clean and improving the air quality for a healthier environment.

The Importance of Clean Bathing Attire

Wearing clean bathing attire that hasn’t been worn outside is a small effort that makes a big difference in keeping our pools clean. Clothes that have been worn outside can carry dirt and pollutants into the pool. By ensuring your swimwear is clean, you help us maintain the highest standards of hygiene. Remember, what you wear in the pool should be reserved exclusively for swimming.

Showering Between Amenities

Another essential way to maintain cleanliness is by showering between use of the hot tub, sauna and steam room, and before re-entering the pools. These amenities cause you to sweat, and showering helps remove any sweat and oils from your skin. This practice keeps amenities and the pool water clean, ensuring a pleasant experience for everyone.

Essential Pool Rules

Along with showering and wearing clean swimwear, you can also help us keep our pools clean, safe and secure through the following ways:

  • Keep Street Shoes Out: To keep dirt and germs out, leave street shoes in designated areas and don’t wear them on the pool deck or in the shower.
  • No Body Oils or Lotions: These products can contaminate the water and disrupt the chemical balance. Please avoid using them before entering the pool.
  • No Glass Bottles: For safety reasons, glass bottles are not permitted on the pool deck or surrounding areas. Broken glass can cause serious injuries and is difficult to clean up.
  • Ask for Assistance: Our lifeguards are here to help. If you have any questions or need assistance, please don’t hesitate to ask.
