Surrey, B.C. – Whether you’re a budding community scientist, avid birdwatcher, or just looking for a new park to enjoy with friends, there’s something for everyone during the City of Surrey’s 28th annual Environmental Extravaganza.

From April 19 to June 8, residents and visitors are invited to participate in nearly 150 free environmental programs and events being offered by nearly 40 community and City partners. Over seven weeks between Earth Day and World Ocean Day, explore unique natural environments, learn about the diverse wildlife in Surrey, or actively take part in protecting our forests and ecosystems.

Top 10 Environmental Extravaganza opportunities to explore, discover and connect with nature:

  1. Celebrate Earth Day by joining a community tree planting event
  2. Learn to fish at Green Timbers Lake
  3. Attend a nature-themed story time at your local library or in a Surrey park
  4. Share Surrey’s biodiversity with the world by participating in the City Nature Challenge
  5. Remove invasive plants in Surrey parks by joining a Nature Work Party during Invasive Species Action Month in May
  6. Discover why Surrey is important to migrating birds on World Migratory Bird Day
  7. Join age-friendly guided walks to learn about nature, meet new people and maintain an active lifestyle
  8. Observe and record plants and animals as part of International Day for Biodiversity
  9. Join a guided walk to discover Surrey’s native plants and wildlife
  10. Join an interpretive beach walk, webinar or shoreline cleanup to celebrate World Oceans Day
