City opens new park in South Newton neighbourhood
The City of Surrey recently opened Edmund Park, situated near the corner of 152 Street and Highway 10, in South Newton.
Surrey, BC – The City of Surrey recently opened Edmund Park, situated near the corner of 152 Street and Highway 10, in South Newton. A ribbon cutting ceremony was held on May 8, 2024, to mark the occasion. It was attended by the Mayor, Council, and members of the community.
“I’m pleased to celebrate the opening of a new high-quality park serving the residents of South Newton,” says Mayor Brenda Locke. “Our parks and green spaces help us to connect to the outdoors and support the development of an engaged and healthy community. Council remains committed to investing in high-quality outdoor infrastructure and amenities for all Surrey residents to enjoy with our ambitious $715.9M capital program.”
Edmund Park is a new 0.4-acre neighbourhood park in South Newton. It has two playgrounds, an accessible walking path, and benches to rest next to the play areas. It is one of the over 800 parks the City of Surrey manages. More than 200 parks have active amenities such as sports fields, sport courts, playgrounds, community gardens or picnic areas and over 600 parks protect natural areas, open space, and biodiversity as part of the larger green infrastructure network.
