City of Surrey Launches Focus Newton Engagement to Enhance and Beautify the Community
The City wants to hear from residents, local businesses, and community groups to create an action plan to celebrate the community and enhance shared amenities.
Surrey, BC – The City of Surrey has launched Focus Newton, a project to engage, beautify and enhance spaces across Newton. The City wants to hear from residents, local businesses, and community groups to create an action plan to celebrate the community and enhance shared amenities, for example in parks, at plazas, and along streets.
"Newton is a vibrant, diverse, and growing community, and with Focus Newton we are taking the necessary steps to beautify and enhance its livability,” said Mayor Brenda Locke. “With the participation of our residents, businesses, and community groups, we can create a plan that reflects the aspirations of our community. I encourage everyone to get involved in this exciting initiative, share your ideas and help shape the future of Newton."
Throughout June and July there are multiple ways to provide input. The first open house will be held on June 22 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Newton Recreation Centre. This in-person engagement provides an opportunity to learn about the Focus Newton project, ask questions, and share ideas for enhancing Newton. An online survey is open until July 30 to gather input from the community.
"Focus Newton is an opportunity for every member of the Newton community to have their voice heard,” said Councillor Harry Bains, Chair of the Focus Newton Task Force. “We want to know your vision for a vibrant Newton, and we invite you to share your ideas and insights. Together, we can make a positive impact and create a neighborhood that we are proud to call home."
As part of the City’s commitment to making a positive impact in the area, Focus Newton will kick off with a series of clean-up blitzes and beautification projects throughout the summer, working towards creating a cleaner and more vibrant Newton.
