Surrey, B.C. – Museum of Surrey, in collaboration with the City of Surrey’s Accessibility Services Team, is thrilled to invite the community to a free and inclusive family event, Sensory fun at the Museum on Saturday June 22 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Participants can look forward to an array of hands-on fun both indoors and outdoors, with a variety of activities hosted by community partners such as TD Bank Group, Canucks Autism Network, Honeybee Centre, Surrey Nature Centre, Surrey Natural Areas Partnership, Surrey United Soccer, Centre of Child Development, Autism BC and more. Explore the galleries, complete a scavenger hunt, enjoy bubble blowing, have your face painted, take home your unique caricature portrait, indulge in delicious ice cream treats from Rolled West Coast food truck and unleash your creativity through craft-making.

The event is a testament to the ongoing partnership between the City of Surrey’s Accessibility Services Team and the Museum of Surrey, both committed to fostering inclusivity and diversity in the community.

Museum Manager, Lynn Saffery notes, “We believe that everyone in Surrey and beyond should be able to access museum programs and events. This means that we will continue to be free of charge, provide accessibility opportunities, and ensure everyone is welcome. I’m excited that this event at Museum of Surrey has been made possible by staff and partners who value accessibility AND fun.”

Since 2019, the Museum of Surrey has provided sensory-friendly experiences. In collaboration with the Canucks Autism Network (CAN), the Museum introduced sensory-friendly hours from 10 a.m. to noon on the first Sunday of each month, offering reduced lighting and sound levels for a comfortable tour experience. Visitors can borrow complimentary noise-cancelling headphones from the front desk at any time and have access to the sensory-friendly space on the museum’s second floor during special events.

We invite the community to join us for a truly inclusive and celebratory event, embracing the diversity that enriches our community.
