The Gallery's spring Family Art Party is on the theme “Nurturing Nature” inspired by the exhibition A Tangled Thicket. All are welcome at this free drop-in event—children must be accompanied by an adult.
A Tangled Thicket features paintings and handcrafted installations by south Surrey-based Z·inc Artist Collective comprised of Willa Downing, Lesley Garratt, Cora Li-Leger, and Claire Moore. The exhibition invites you to contemplate ecology, the natural world, and humanity’s place within it. You're encouraged to playfully investigate the exhibition, answer questions, and try activities in the Art Monster Booklet guided by the Gallery’s Youth Docents.
In response to Cora Li-Leger’s reflective art books, design and illustrate your own accordion book with the artist. You can also imagine nature’s unseen underground, creating a clay tile riffing off Willa Downing’s ceramic sculpture Rearranged Landscapes. Finally, sculpt your own mobile with Claire Moore inspired by her ethereal sculptural installation hanging from the ceiling, Running on Sunlight.
The Gallery will host a performance of The Great Bloom by Sydney Marino with the Story Theatre Company. This new Canadian comedy for young audiences is about discovering the value each person can add to the world, even when one path looks different from another. It promotes self-acceptance and touches on ecological themes. Pick up free tickets on arrival for the show in the Studio Theatre at 2pm.
A dedicated sensory-friendly space supports quieter creativity with a paper landscape collage-making activity, resources like noise-cancelling headphones, soft seats, and sensory toys all in a comfortable, relaxed setting.
