Online Application Tips

Your online application is the first step to joining the City of Surrey team. To apply for our jobs, review our current job opportunities and create a profile to submit your application.
When you're preparing your application, consider the following tips.
Customizing your Resume and Cover Letter
Our recruiters review each application to determine if candidates meet the minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities noted in the job description. Applications that meet the minimum qualifications are forwarded to the hiring manager for review and feedback.
By submitting an application that clearly indicates how you meet the minimum qualifications, you will improve your chances of being short-listed for the next stage of the recruitment process. It’s also important to include all your relevant work experience, education, and other credentials. We find it really helpful if applicants list their experiences in chronological order and include dates with their employment history.
Do you need a cover letter? Although it’s not mandatory to submit one with your application, a cover letter can help provide a brief introduction to you, your skills and background, and your motivation for applying to a particular position.
Answering the Pre-Screen Questions
When applying for a specific job opportunity, you will be required to answer a few basic pre-screening questions that will help us gather more information on how you meet the minimum qualifications. Please take time to answer these questions carefully. Our recruiters will review your answers and verify the information from your resume.
Reviewing Your Application
Before you hit the submit button, make sure:
- There are no errors (spelling mistakes, grammar, etc.) on your cover letter and/or resume
- You've answered your pre-screen questions correctly
- Your contact information is correct
