Connecting city with nature, Hawthorne Gardens at Hawthorne Park (10503 144th Street) offer a unique link between Surrey's urban and natural landscapes.
Hawthorne Gardens are located adjacent to the main parking lot, which you can enter off 144th Street, north of 104th Avenue. The focus of these gardens is the varied collection of flowering trees and shrubs, which are particularly attractive in the springtime, when the rhododendrons and azaleas are in flower. Dogwoods, magnolias and flower cherries extend the flowering season well into early summer.
Several large ponds, frequented by waterfowl, are located at the northern edge of the gardens. Many benches provide great bird-watching opportunities. To the west of the garden, an urban forest offers an extensive trail network for a longer walk amongst paper birch, alder and black cottonwoods.
A large gazebo, dry creek planting, sculptural pieces and seating areas compliment the horticulture. Just south of the gardens, you'll find lots of open green space, ideal for a family picnic.
