Discover how your city works with a tour of City Hall.

Our City Hall Tour hosts welcome a wide variety of schools, community organizations, and other groups through City Hall. Participants will:

  • Gain an overview of the City of Surrey operations and history of our halls.
  • Explore exciting locations within City Hall like Council Chambers, the performing arts stage, and the Traffic Management Centre.
  • Learn about interesting building features.
  • Learn about some of the programs and services that the City has to offer.

Tours are designed for:

School groups: intermediate grades, high school and post-secondary students
  • Local government basics: learn about how local government works, including the roles of the mayor, council members, and other officials. 
  • Fun facts: hear interesting historical tidbits about our city and its development. Highlight noteworthy events related to City Hall and its impact on the community.
  • Interactive activities: engage students with hands-on experiences. Visit various floors (like Traffic Management) to understand their functions.
  • Being civic-minded: discuss community service, environmental initiatives, and ways students can contribute positively to their city. 
Adults and seniors

  • Fun facts and history: Share interesting historical tidbits about the city and its development. Highlight noteworthy events related to City Hall and its impact on the community.

Newcomers to Surrey
  • Introduction to local government: Learn about how our municipal government operates. Discuss the roles of the mayor, council members, and other officials. Learn about the decision-making processes and how policies are put into action. 
  • Historical insights: share interesting historical tidbits about the city and its development. Discuss key events related to City Hall, such as its construction, major renovations, or significant decisions made within its walls. 
  • Guided tour: The focus is on architectural features, art installations, and any unique aspects of the building. Point out areas where important meetings take place, such as the council chamber.
  • Community engagement: hosts will emphasize the importance of civic participation. Hear about how to attend future council meetings, engage in community events, and explore other city facilities.

In-person tour

Tours are offered weekly and are booked on a first-come-first-serve basis. Bookings fill up quickly, so we suggest submitting requests 2–3 months in advance. Use the link below to request the dates/times that work best for you!

  • Tour duration is approximately 90 minutes.
  • Tour bookings are available on weekdays at 10:00am or 12:30pm. 

The maximum group size is 24 participants plus chaperones.

Tour groups require 1:15 adult/student ratio. The tour will visit working areas of City Hall, so attendees will need to be prepared to be respectful of staff and patrons who are working and conducting business.

A visit to City of Surrey’s Traffic Management Centre (TMC) is included in a City Hall tour. TMC is a state-of-the-art facility where advanced technology is used to monitor, manage, and optimize traffic flow in a city. It offers a dynamic environment for careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
