Surrey Tree Lighting Festival Supports the Surrey Food Bank

For immediate release: November 9, 2011

Surrey, B.C. –The City of Surrey will illuminate Central City Plaza on December 3rd and light the Lower Mainland’s tallest Christmas tree at the annual Tree Lighting event presented by Coast Capital Savings.
The highlight of this spectacular family event will involve Frosty and Santa joining Mayor and Council as they switch on the lights of the City’s official Christmas tree.
“What a better way to kick off the holiday season than to light up Surrey’s beautiful Christmas tree and join together to support the Surrey Food Bank and help those in need in our community,” said Surrey Mayor Dianne Watts.

The Surrey tree lighting festival is a free event, however, the public is encouraged to bring non-perishable food donations for the Surrey Food Bank who will be located onsite.

The event wraps up with headline concert performances by Canadian Pop sensation Fefe Dobson and These Kids Wear Crowns. The tree lighting ceremony will also include a special performance by Touch of Brass, one of BC’s best brass ensembles.

The Surrey Tree Lighting Festival will be held this year at Central City Plaza in front of Central City Tower (102 Avenue and 135 Street) and has been broadened to include winter activities such as road hockey and curling. In addition to live music, families can also enjoy plenty of holiday cheer with hot chocolate, face painters, kid’s crafts and ice carving demos.

Gates open at 2:00 pm with the Tree Lighting Ceremony at 5pm and the double-bill concert finale at 7:00 pm.
The Tree Lighting Festival has grown to become one of the City’s signature special events. Visit www.surrey.ca/treelighting to find out more about the event.
