Safer, smarter mobility

Surrey’s Traffic Management Centre (TMC) is an important tool the City uses to help provide residents with safer, smarter mobility. It is the most advanced municipal centre of its kind in BC.

Our team of engineers and technologists use artificial intelligence-based technology, including nearly 500 traffic cameras across the City, to make all modes of transportation in Surrey safer and more accessible for everyone.

How it works

At the TMC, our staff receive automated alerts from traffic signals and sensors throughout Surrey to help us monitor and rapidly respond to delays caused by things like collisions, stalled vehicles, and construction and road work.

Using this data, along with our cameras, we can quickly see where congestion is occurring because of something out of the ordinary. We can then adjust signal timing and broadcast traffic alerts on platforms such as Twitter to improve safety and travel times.

The Traffic Management Centre in Surrey monitors traffic conditions from Monday to Friday between 6:30 am and 6:30 pm.

Digital Transportation Strategy

On July 24 2022, Surrey Council endorsed the Digital Transportation Strategy (DTS) - Surrey's Path to a User Focused and Data Centric Intelligent Transportation System.

The DTS identifies a vison and actions to direct Surrey towards a digitally integrated transportation ecosystem where mobility services, sensors, infrastructure, personal devices, and traditional modes are integrated, analyzed, and managed through advanced digital technology.
