THE HOMELESS PARTNERING SECRETARIAT'S NEW CALL FOR PROPOSALS ON YOUTH HOMELESSNESS

We are pleased to announce a Call for Proposals (CFP) on youth homelessness under the Homelessness Knowledge Development (HKD) funding stream of the Homelessness Partnering Strategy (HPS). Youth was one of the key focus areas identified in the responses to a questionnaire that was issued last May. The total amount of funding available is $500,000 with a maximum of $80,000 for each funded project. The deadline for applications is February 29, 2012.

The HPS seeks to fund research on evidence-based promising practices in order to provide communities with the tools that they need to prevent and reduce youth homelessness. These practices should account for the diversity of the homeless youth population so that communities can tailor programs to their local needs. Applicants must define how communities are active partners with the projects and demonstrate that their research is relevant to the community. For more information, please visit the HKD website http://www.hrsdc.gc.ca/eng/homelessness/funding/knowledge_development/index.shtml or contact HKD by email hkd-dci@hrsdc-rhdcc.gc.ca.

THE PURPOSE OF SHAME AND THE POWER OF EMPATHY

A 2-Day Workshop with Sarah Peyton, CNVC trainer-candidate

Shame is a rarely discussed but very commonly felt emotion, and the intensity of the shame experience can be confusing and overwhelming. There are good reasons for this, and in this 2-day workshop we will be exploring why shame is so hard and how to hold ourselves with compassion when we feel it, and how to move out of it. By understanding the early roots of shame and how it impacts our bodies and our souls, we will create solid ground to stand on to see ourselves with generosity and care. Using empathy and Interpersonal Neurobiology, we will leave this workshop able to identify and transform states of shame, and to sustain ourselves even when we find ourselves in a world of shame.

Part I: Saturday, February 11th 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.*

Part II: Sunday, February 12th 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

*If you can only make it one day, please come on Saturday - Part 1. We will be exploring themes in Part 2 on Sunday that were introduced in Part 1.
