Translation – Explanation and Caution

The electronic translation service on the City of Surrey’s web site is hosted by Google Translate. The quality of the translation may vary in some of the languages offered by Google. The goal of the basic translation is to capture the general intention of the original English material.

Google Translate is a free service and currently offers translation in over 50 languages. Unfortunately, not all the languages spoken in the City of Surrey are translated. Punjabi is one of the languages not currently offered, and to remedy the situation, the City has been in contact with Google and they have committed to making Punjabi available in the future.

The City of Surrey cannot guarantee the quality, accuracy, or completeness of any translated information. Before you act on translated information, the City encourages you to confirm any facts that are important to you and the decisions you make.

The City of Surrey offers interpretation services at all its facilities. If you have a question about the material you read on our web site, we encourage you to stop by a City facilities to discuss it. You can also contact the City at (604) 591-4011 to receive interpretation support.

The City is committed to enhancing the accessibility of its web site to all its citizens, and appreciates any feedback that it receives.

Surrey's Response to Community Safety and Crime Reduction

 

Following extensive public and stakeholder involvement, the Crime Reduction Strategy was implemented in 2007.  This Strategy, which was led and inspired by Mayor Watts, contains 106 recommendations that fall into four categories or ‘strands’. These strands serve to provide a template of actions and commitments towards achieving results specific to the broad problem solving model known as "crime reduction".  To learn more about the goals and four strands please click on the image to the right to download the PDF document, or visit the Crime Reduction Strategy Page.

Surrey Crime Reduction Committees and Task Forces

Crime Reduction Strategy- A strategy designed by the City of Surrey that contains 106 recommendations to help in reducing crime in Surrey.

The Public Safety Committee- The Committee meets to discuss municipal policing priorities and review community policing initiatives with the RCMP. The Committee also develops policies and/or programs to enhance public safety in ‘high-need’ areas.

Surrey RCMP - The City of Surrey works very closely with the Surrey RCMP on numerous community safety and crime reduction issues as they arise.

Surrey Electrical and Fire Safety Initiative - The Surrey Electrical and Fire Safety Initiative (EFSI) represents one of the City's key responses to eradicating marijuana grow operations in Surrey. The EFSI is led by the Surrey Fire Department and includes a team of City staff representatives.

Surrey City Watch - Municipal staff are trained to recognize and report suspicious activity they may witness while carrying out the normal duties of their jobs, which take them into neighbourhoods across the city when most people are away from their homes.

Surrey Homelessness and Housing Fund - In June 2007, Surrey City Council approved the creation of a new Surrey Homelessness and Housing Fund to support “made in Surrey” solutions to homelessness and housing issues in Surrey.

Focus on Senior's Task Force - The Focus on Seniors Task Force is mandated to collect information and resources including designated agencies, services and programs available to seniors in Surrey. This information is then shared amongst the agencies and resource groups to educate seniors, caregivers and families on available resources and where they may be accessed

Surrey Coalition Against Domestic Abuse - SCADA brings together community organizations that specializes in effectively addressing and reducing domestic abuse.

Employment and Skills Development Supports - There are seven Employment Resource Centres (three general and four specialized) in Surrey that offer a wide variety of job and career development options.
