Translation – Explanation and Caution

The electronic translation service on the City of Surrey’s web site is hosted by Google Translate. The quality of the translation may vary in some of the languages offered by Google. The goal of the basic translation is to capture the general intention of the original English material.

Google Translate is a free service and currently offers translation in over 50 languages. Unfortunately, not all the languages spoken in the City of Surrey are translated. Punjabi is one of the languages not currently offered, and to remedy the situation, the City has been in contact with Google and they have committed to making Punjabi available in the future.

The City of Surrey cannot guarantee the quality, accuracy, or completeness of any translated information. Before you act on translated information, the City encourages you to confirm any facts that are important to you and the decisions you make.

The City of Surrey offers interpretation services at all its facilities. If you have a question about the material you read on our web site, we encourage you to stop by a City facilities to discuss it. You can also contact the City at (604) 591-4011 to receive interpretation support.

The City is committed to enhancing the accessibility of its web site to all its citizens, and appreciates any feedback that it receives.

Environmental Extravaganza

Surrey's 15th Annual Environmental Extravaganza

Join us for this series of free environmental programs and events, happening throughout Surrey and the surrounding area from Earth Day to World Ocean Day (April 22 to June 8). This year we bring you over 70 events and programs, with something for all ages and abilities. You can:

 

  • "Party for the Planet" at the City's 2nd Annual celebration
  • Join a local naturalist to search for birds in Surrey Parks
  • Pitch in to a park clean up in a neighbourhood near you
  • Take part in nature walks in English or Mandarin
  • Meet live owls and search for more in the park at night
  • Help salmon fry by releasing them into Surrey's streams
  • Listen to a nature story at your local library
  • ...and so much more!

Passport Contest

Pick up an Environmental Extravaganza Passport at any Surrey Public Library, Recreation Centre, or Environmental Extravaganza event. You can also pick up a passport at City Hall, Surrey Nature Centre at Green Timbers, or download and print the Passport (PDF. New window.). 

Have it stamped at at least 3 Environmental Extravaganza events for your chance to win great prizes, including gift cards to Guildford Town Centre! Once your Passport is stamped and you've included your information, return it to any Environmental Extravaganza event or Surrey Public Library, City Hall, or Surrey Nature Centre at Green Timbers to be entered into the draw.

Everyone (all ages) who returns a completed passport with 3 stamps will receive a special gift by mail. Any kids (17 and under) who return a completed passport with 6 stamps, will receive 2 special gifts!

School Programs & School Challenge

As part of the Environmental Extravaganza, we're offering numerous school programs free of charge to Surrey classes. Spaces are limited, and bookings are done on a first-come, first-served basis, so don't hesitate! New to the Environmental Extravaganza this year is the School Challenge. We are challenging students, classes, clubs, and whole schools to do something extra for the planet this Spring - are you up for the challenge? Review the instructions and list of challenges (PDF. Get Gardening (PDF. New window.)
Plant an edible container or hanging basket and watch your food, and your appetites, grow.

Nature Near You (PDF. New window.)
Visit any park near your school and lead your class in a nature exploration activity. Don't forget to download the Nature Journal (PDF. New window.) as a part of this challenge.

Get Rid of Litter (PDF. New window.)
Clean up the litter from around your school and audit the findings; come up with a solution to get rid of the litter.

Find out who else attends your school by conducting a biodiversity study. Have a closer look at all the life in your school yard.

Make a Donation (PDF. New window.)
Work with the wildlife rehabilitation centre of your choice to put together a package of items that will help them keep our wild friends healthy and happy.

Join the Hub for Action on School Transportation Emissions (HASTE BC) to safely walk and roll to school for the duration of the Environmental Extravaganza for the chance for your school to win the Mayor’s Golden Shoe trophy!
