Museum Expansion Update

A hint at what the new Museum will look like

Coming: 2018

Construction is expected to begin in June, 2017. The Museum will remain open during construction until further notice.

"The expanded museum will be a community hub where people can not only tour the museum galleries but also gather with friends, study or relax with indoor/outdoor seating and amenities. It will be a dynamic space reflecting the innovation and creativity that defines the City of Surrey." - Lynn Saffery, Museum Manager

About the Museum Expansion

The expanded museum will be a community hub where people can not only tour the Museum galleries but also gather with friends, study or relax with indoor/outdoor seating and amenities.

It will be a dynamic space reflecting the innovation and creativity that defines the City of Surrey, including:

  • Large public spaces for special events and evening rentals
  • A flexible gallery for international and national exhibitions that can also be used for community curated exhibits and celebrations
  • A Kids Gallery that will be tripled in size for family fun and learning
  • Makerspaces and to keep the creativity flowing

Functional upgrades will be made as well, including an expanded collections storage to store and document Surrey’s material collections, a fabrication workshop and humidity and climate controls to best preserve artifacts. The large atrium and moving walls planned are intended to encourage museum goers and the community alike to use the space for their leisure.
