Translation – Explanation and Caution

The electronic translation service on the City of Surrey’s web site is hosted by Google Translate. The quality of the translation may vary in some of the languages offered by Google. The goal of the basic translation is to capture the general intention of the original English material.

Google Translate is a free service and currently offers translation in over 50 languages. Unfortunately, not all the languages spoken in the City of Surrey are translated. Punjabi is one of the languages not currently offered, and to remedy the situation, the City has been in contact with Google and they have committed to making Punjabi available in the future.

Diversity & Inclusion

Diversity and Inclusion

The City of Surrey is one of the most diverse municipalities in Canada. The City aims to create communities that are both welcoming and inclusive for all people, through respecting and valuing individual differences and recognizing these layers of diversity as value.

This section is designed to help you map and navigate your journey. The information on diversity and inclusion services, has been organized to provide all members of our community, including persons with disabilities, new immigrants, new residents, community leaders, community agencies and other partners.

The City of Surrey's Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee is to enhance multicultural harmony, and strengthen and enhance intercultural cooperation in the City of Surrey. Councillor Barinder Rasode is the current Chair of the Committee with the Mayor and Councillors Martin and Villeneuve sitting on the Committee. Council is interested in ensuring a broad representation of the City’s various ethnic groups and cultures and, on this basis, welcomes applications from those interested in sitting on this Committee. This Committee has members from various organizations and multi cultural agencies/groups that operate in Surrey. The Committee meets a minimum of six times per year. Read the MAC terms of reference, and more on the other City of Surrey committees.

Measuring Up

Surrey Association for Community Living (SACL) and City of Surrey Parks, Recreation and Culture (SPRC) established a Measuring Up Advisory Committee to steer the development of the Plan for Accessibility and Inclusion in the community of Surrey. In February 2008, the Surrey Association for Community Living engaged the Social Planning and Research Council of BC (SPARC BC) on behalf of the Measuring up Committee, to undertake research for the preparation of a Plan for Accessibility and Inclusion in the community of Surrey.
