October 17, 2011 to October 23, 2011

October 17-23, people across Canada worked together on their ‘3 Rs’— REDUCING, REUSING and RECYCLING to help minimize the amount of waste ending up in landfills. The City of Surrey held two separate competitions to challenge families and students to reduce their waste and win great prizes!
Congratulations to the Jackson family and keep up the great work! By taking simple steps like composting food scraps and shopping second-hand, the Jackson family earned enough points to win our Family Challenge prize pack.
We would also like to thank all the schools across the City that took part in our School Competition. Students earned points for actions like packing litterless lunches and recycling. We had over 350 students take part across the City! Way to reduce your waste! A special congratulations goes out to the following:
Top School-Cindrich Elementary wins a performance by DreamRider Theatre!
Top Primary Class-Latimer Road Elementary, Grade 3, Division 6 wins a swim or skate party with free pizza!
Top Intermediate Class-Bear Creek Elementary, Grade 5, Division 7 wins a swim or skate party with free pizza!
Honourable Mentions earn recreation passes for a free swim or skate for each particpant!
Erma Stephenson Elementary, Grade 5/6, Division 6
Cougar Creek Elementary, Kindergarten, Division 20

Congratulations! Until next year, CHALLENGE YOURSELF, YOUR FRIENDS and FAMILY!
