How often will I be billed?
You will be billed three times per year. The due dates depend on the metered area you live in.

Why are the flat rates increasing?

Customers who volunteer to have meters installed will no longer be subsidizing the high volume users. Rate increases from the Greater Vancouver Regional District affect the City's cost of purchasing water, which in turn is directly related to the amount we consume.
What if my household uses more water than the original flat rate? Will I pay more than what I am currently paying?
At a customer's request, the City will review their account after the first year to see if they have saved money under the program. If the difference between the metered charges and the flat rate is more than $25, you can apply for a one time credit. The credit must be requested in writing by the customer within 15 months of volunteering for a meter (voluntary rebate).
What if I already have a water meter? Will the voluntary rebate apply to me as well?
No. The one-time credit will be available only to those who volunteer under the program.
Will I have to pay for a meter in the future?
The City does not have a plan to request the existing homeowners to pay for their water meter, but the City Council will review this option regularly.
How much water can I use before my payment exceeds the current flat rate?
If you use less than 670 cubic meters per year, you will pay less than the combined water and sewer flat rate. The average consumption for metered family is 475 cubic meters of water per year.
What happens if the water bill is wrong and I get charged too much?
Erroneous meter reading is not common. In case of an error, the City will read the meter again to confirm. If the meter was incorrectly read, the bill will be corrected.
Will I still receive a bill if I have been away for a long time?
Yes, there is a base charge of $22 per bill. There's the pre-authorized auto-debit payment plan available where the City withdraws the amount owing from your account on the due date.
What if I already paid the utility bill for the year?
Your account will be prorated and the credit that is left from the day the meter is installed will be applied towards your metered bill. Next year, you won't receive an annual bill, and instead will be billed every 4 months under the metered system.
What if I am a non-residential real property owner and I feel that my sewage output differs significantly from the volume of water I use?
You may make a written request to the engineering department for a review of the amount of sewage output. The request should be accompanied by a technical substantiation certified by a professional process engineer to verify the lesser volumes.
