Our Accomplishments

We’re honoured.

All of us who work with the City of Surrey know the efforts we make each day to achieve excellence across all platforms. But isn’t it nice when others notice, too? As of the 2010 announcement, the City of Surrey has earned the ranks of BC’s Top Employers for six consecutive years in a row.

“This special designation recognizes the British Columbia employers that lead their industries in offering exceptional places to work,” according to Canada’s Top 100 Employers’ website, “Employers are compared to other organizations in their field to determine which offers the most progressive and forward-thinking programs.”

Surrey was specifically commended for our alternative work options and flexible schedules, generous retirement assistance, onsite amenities like our fitness facility and subsidized memberships at city recreation centres, among other exceptional benefits.

As BC’s second-largest city, we have the opportunity to lead by example. It’s a responsibility we take very seriously, and we’re proud to have made outstanding strides in areas of innovation, stewardship and community involvement, in addition to our status as an employer of choice. Among our proudest achievements are:

  • Cultural DIVERSEcity Award for Business in recognition of our Library Division’s work to more inclusively serve our culturally diverse community
  • Environmental Stewardship Award in recognition of making a contribution to the quality of the environment
  • Open Spaces Award in recognition of the creation of Holland Park, a new green centre for the community and key focal point of the 2010 Winter Olympics celebration
  • Premier’s Award for Promoting Innovation and Excellence in recognition of the development of the Water Balance Model and Surrey being a founding member of an intergovernmental partnership
  • Environmental Sustainability Award in recognition of the City’s adopting its Sustainability Charter that provides a framework for its progressive 50-year vision for a Sustainable City
  • Award of Excellence for Children/Youth in recognition of Surrey’s Mobile Youth Outreach (MOYO) for dedication to making a difference in the lives of BC’s vulnerable children and youth
