98 Avenue and 99 Avenue at 153A Street Curb Bulge Projects

98 & 99 Ave

Project Description

We are planning to build a crosswalk and curb bulges for the Johnston Heights Secondary School and Mountainview Montessori School neighbourhood as part of the Safe and Active Schools Program

This project includes:

  •  A new crosswalk across 99 Avenue at the 15300 block in front of Johnston Heights Secondary School
  • Curb bulges at the Johnston Heights driveways on 99 Avenue
  • A low fence along the north side of 99 Avenue to discourage jaywalking right in front of the path to Kingston Gardens
  • Curb bulges at the intersection of 98 Avenue and 153A Street

This project helps improve pedestrian access to Johnston Heights Secondary School and Mountainview Montessori School and improves pedestrian safety and comfort. The curb bulges help to maintain pedestrian and driver sightlines, and reduce pedestrian crossing distance to the schools.

Project Schedule

This project is anticipated to occur in the summer of 2016.

This project is part of a construction package that includes many other sidewalk projects.  To maximize the efficiency of equipment and resources, typically contractors work at several locations concurrently, with crews responsible for the different types of work involved in repaving moving between locations as needed.

However, roadwork is heavily dependent on weather, so delays aren’t uncommon and are often related to wet or cool weather.  Fronting properties will be notified about five days in advance of the start of construction.
