Garbage

As we work towards reducing waste as much as possible, less material will need to go into your garbage cart. Garbage is collected every other week. To find out when your garbage collection day is, please see the waste collection schedule.

Garbage Process

  1. Progressive Waste Solutions picks up garbage materials at your curbside, with new, state-of-the-art automated Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) trucks, which emit 23% less carbon emissions and 90% less air particulates, compared to diesel trucks

  2. The trucks take the garbage to the Surrey Transfer Station. At the Transfer Station, garbage is stored on a temporary basis and is screened for hazardous waste and recyclable materials.

  3. The garbage is then loaded into large trucks and hauled to the Cache Creek or Vancouver Landfill or the Burnaby Waste-to-Energy Facility.

What Goes In

What goes in your garbage cart? Only waste that cannot be placed in the organics or recyclables cart, for example: diapers, cloth and textile materials, or any product that cannot be reused or recycled.
