Major Road Network

Metro Vancouver’s Major Road Network (MRN) (Website. New Window) consists of provincial and regional highways and strategic City arterial roads. It was created by TransLink (Website. New Window) in 1999 and is a subset of the City’s arterial road network.

Maintenance and capital construction on the MRN are done by Surrey. TransLink funds the maintenance, and the funding for most capital works is split 50-50 between Surrey and TransLink.

TransLink, the Metro Vancouver regional transportation authority, was created in 1999. At the same time, the Province declassified three provincial highways in Surrey: Highway 99A - King George Highway (now King George Boulevard), Highway 1A - Fraser Highway, and 120 Street / Scott Road. TransLink then established the MRN to address regional transportation needs.
