Distinguished Jury Announced for Inaugural NewCity Design Awards
August 02, 2011
Surrey – The City of Surrey is pleased to announce the appointment of a distinguished international jury that will select the winners of its inaugural 2011 NewCity Design Awards:
• David Down, FRAIC, is Senior Architect/Urban Designer for the City of Calgary
• Susan Jones, FAIA, is Founding Partner, atelierjones architects in Seattle, Washington
• Margot Long, FCSLA, is Principal, PWL Partnership Landscape Architects, Vancouver
“The jury members, collectively and individually, have a wide range of qualifications and experience,” says Acting Mayor Judy Villeneuve. “Their work includes architecture, urban design, sustainability advocacy, education, and design review. They will help the City of Surrey recognize and honour some of the innovative projects that exist in our community.”
The NewCity Design Award categories range from single family dwellings to comprehensive mixed use developments. The awards will promote examples of design excellence in architecture, urban design, landscape architecture and other building types completed over the last decade.
“We invite the public to nominate projects that have made a contribution to our community, and also encourage the development industry to submit projects for the jury to consider,” says Villeneuve.
The awards are part of the City Awards program, created to celebrate excellence in urban design and sustainable community development.
Award submissions and nominations will be accepted on the City’s website until September 9, 2011, and the award recipients will be honoured on October 25, 2011 at a reception in the new City Centre library.
