City hosts its Sixty Annual SCADA Conference

SCADA 2015

November 16, 2015

Surrey, BC – The City of Surrey hosted its sixth annual domestic abuse conference for service providers today with this year’s event focusing on media impacts on domestic abuse.

The 2015 conference titled, “Through the Media Lens:  Impacts on Domestic Abuse,” featured key note speaker Jesse Miller - Mediated Reality, as well as Pamela Martin - Media Host, Carol Todd - Amanda Todd Legacy Society, Minister of Children and Family Development, Stephanie Cadieux and Police Media Experts.

“Research has shown that media violence has increased in quantity and has become more graphic,” said Mayor Linda Hepner.  “In addition, despite dropping crime rates, images of violent crime are front and centre in many media broadcasts.  At today’s conference, we created awareness and education on the impacts (both positive and negative) of media on domestic abuse.”
