Surrey Receives 17th Consecutive Financial Reporting Award

The City of Surrey has received the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for the 17th consecutive year.

“Financial transparency and accountability is a vital component of effective governance at all levels, and I am proud of Surrey’s proven track record,” says Mayor Linda Hepner. “Going forward, we will not only continue to meet the minimum requirements of financial reporting but exceed them at the municipal level, and remain a leader in open data.”

The award for financial reporting for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2013 will be presented to the General Manager of Surrey’s Finance & Technology Department tonight at City Council. The GFOA is a non-profit professional association serving nearly 18,000 government finance professionals in the United States and Canada.

Reports submitted are reviewed by selected members of the GFOA professional staff and a review committee, which comprises individuals with expertise in Canadian public-sector financial reporting and includes financial statement preparers, independent auditors, academics, and other finance professionals.
