June 19, 2014
Surrey, BC - As part of Child Care Month celebrations, the City of Surrey has been honoured with an award from the Provincial Government for demonstrating outstanding service to children and families.
The City of Surrey earned its award under the Local Government category. The municipality, the largest child care provider in Surrey, received the award for taking a citywide approach to the quality of its preschool programs.
“All of these dedicated professionals who care for our youngest learners in communities throughout B.C. deserve our thanks and this special recognition,” said the Honourable Stephanie Cadieux, MLA for Surrey-Cloverdale and Minister of Children and Family Development. “The compassion and commitment they bring to their jobs are truly appreciated and I’d like to personally congratulate all of them for their outstanding contribution.”
“We are honoured to be recognized for the work we have done,” said City of Surrey Mayor Dianne Watts. “The early years are a critical time in every child’s development. The focus for us as a city is to ensure that every child is supported on a path to lifelong success and to ensure they are given every opportunity to achieve their goals and succeed in life.”
Two Surrey residents, Helen Gill and Mariola Adamska, earned Honourable Mentions.
The Child Care Awards of Excellence recognize the exceptional contributions made by early childhood educators, licensed family child-care providers, organizations and local governments throughout B.C. Award recipients were nominated by peers, parents and local governments.
As the largest childcare provider in Surrey, City programs serves over 1300 families in its licensed preschool programs, and more than 16,200 children ages o-6 in its preschool programs annually. For more information visit www.surrey.ca/recreation
