Bridgeview Community Centre Grand Opening Draws More than 600 Attendees
July 10, 2013
SURREY, BC – Hundreds of residents of North Surrey’s Bridgeview area were in attendance yesterday (Tuesday July 9) to celebrate the official grand opening of the newly renovated Bridgeview Community Centre. More than 600 people came out to enjoy activities for families including a BBQ, music, games and children’s entertainment.
“Bridgeview Community Centre is a wonderful addition to the neighbourhood,” said City of Surrey Mayor Dianne Watts. “In addition to being a community hub and gathering place for community and family events, there is a long list of new program and service offerings for all ages.”
The updated facility includes a gymnasium with new wood court floors and wall panelling, three refurbished multi-purpose rooms, a full community kitchen with commercial amenities, upgraded and accessible washroom facilities, new exterior siding and windows, and a refurbished outdoor playground.
“The facility is designed for multipurpose activities and usage,” said Surrey Councillor Linda Hepner, Chair of the Parks, Recreation and Sport Tourism Committee. “There will be new sport opportunities such as badminton, basketball, and soccer as well as youth leadership and engagement opportunities, preschool and art programs, camps for children and preschool, afterschool programs, and senior social and recreation activities.”
The new community centre will expand programs and services to include early childhood, middle years and family programs; youth programming and services; adult and seniors programs; and community meeting space. The project was funded through a $1.15 million investment from the City along with a $250,000 federal funding contribution from the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
