Surrey’s Party for the Planet Getting Ready to Rock Earth Day!
April 17, 2013
Surrey, BC: With Earth Day just three days away, the City of Surrey is celebrating its commitment to the environment on Saturday, April 27th from 10am-9:00 pm FREE at Central City Plaza with Party for the Planet, BC’s largest Earth Day celebration. Last year’s event drew over 20,000 people.
Proudly presented for the second year in a row by the TD Bank Group, Party for the Planet boasts a diverse talent line-up with headliners Lights and Hey Ocean! Not only is it a great concert, it’s an opportunity for residents to learn about Surrey’s key sustainability initiatives around waste, water management, transportation and energy while learning how we can all help the Earth.
“Surrey is a leader in sustainability and Party for the Planet is a fabulous opportunity to showcase our many accomplishments and future directions”, said City of Surrey Mayor Dianne Watts. “Plus we have outstanding musical acts and lots of free interactive eco-activities for the entire family.”
The City of Surrey will highlight key sustainability initiatives around transportation, waste diversion, trees and landscapes, water management, and energy. Party for the Planet will be chock-full of fun, interactive eco-exhibits where residents will discover how they can benefit from green initiatives in their own community.
Gardiners will be able to purchase a tree, plant a vegetable in a compostable pot to take home and bring their plant questions to the experts. Kids will enjoy making eco-friendly crafts, trying the Salmon Life Cycle Obstacle Course or “walking” on water while learning about water pollution. Everyone can try the Sustainability Scavenger Hunt, and bring their old electronics for recycling. There’s truly something for everyone.
